Beatrix H. Kaswara

Beatrix Hendriani Kaswara (1984) is a Bandung based artist who graduated from Visual Art and Design, Bandung Institute of Technology majoring in painting. Her work was first exhibited in 2002 in a joint exhibition entitled ‘Incubation’ which was held at the east hall of the institute. Ever since, she continues to actively participate in group exhibitions in Indonesia and abroad.


Beatrix works were first exhibited overseas in an exhibition named ‘a slice of Indonesia’ at the Soka art gallery, in Beijing, China in 2008. In that same year she participated in group exhibitions named ‘Change Oil’ and ‘Refresh’ at the Valentine Willie Fine Art Gallery in Singapore. She had two solo exhibitions, ‘Precious Treasures’ at Culture Park, Sago Tea House, in Bandung, 2005 and ‘Visible Noise’ at Selasar Sunaryo Art Space in Bandung, 2009. In 2008, she joined a residency programme at the well known Cemeti Art House in Jogjakarta..


Beatrix’ work is well-known for its distinctive, characterised by colours that glow like neon lights. Beatrix often does digital editing in the early stages of making her work, then uses conventional painting techniques in the final finishing. In addition, Beatrix is also known to use repeated lines and layered paint in her work. Apart from canvas, she like to works on glass as her medium.


Here at Devfto, Beatrix spent time learning techniques of lithography, screenprinting, cyanotype and aquatint etching.
