Henryette Louise

Devfto x ArtSociates

Henryette Louise (b.1981) is one of Indonesian women artists who is known for her arts installation, one of them is Lokositato Mencari Tanah Air #4 at Museum Fatahillah.

Henryette Louise studied arts in SMSR Surabaya (painting), STSI Bandung (Tata Laksana Grafis Pertunjukan) and took her Bachelor of Fine Art at ISBI Bandung.

As she started to continue her study, works and lives in Bandung in 2007, Louise developed her skill and quality of techniques to pursue her artistic practice by becoming an artisan and working on sculptures. Since then, both 2 dimensional and three dimensional works have become her interest.

Her artistic practice is broad, ranging its sources as her empirical experience grew up with her grandmother’s 'mbok' and Louise often carried with her grandmother to sell 𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘬 at the local traditional market. For Louise, her grandmother's belief which can be said as dynamism gave her the same rationalities as how the world runs today. Those experiences evoke her sense of exploring the relationship between materiality, history and environment to convey stimulating perspectives towards identity, home, belonging and the complexities of contemporary society.

Louise will be exploring printmaking during her residency at Devfto supported by Artsociates Bandung.
