Richard Jacobs

Devfto x Independent Artist

Richard Jacobs, a painter and printmaker from Vermont, USA, has been working periodically in Bali since 1987 when he was a Henry Luce Scholar. For over 3 decades he collaborated with the late Balinese Master Wayan Sika on projects that included batik fusion paintings large scale monotypes and woodcuts carved in Bali and then printed in snow in Vermont.

Jacobs received a BA from the Cooper Union and an MFA from Yale University. His paintings have been exhibited internationally, and are represented in museum, private and corporate collections.

During his residency at Devfto, Jacobs experimented with the monotype technique, creating over 100 works in a period of one month. Remembering how he used to create prints with spoons on the second floor of Sika Gallery, he was thrilled to come back and be able to experiment with the professional equipment and with the support of Devy Ferdianto.
